You are the beauty that comes from within
A perfect circle yeah, an opulent dream
Scrape the surface for pieces of my heart
And all that’s left is a benevolent scream
Baby let's get together
I wanna get with you
Nobody else could matter
What else do we have to lose?
I’ll be your Magna Carta
You'll be my cryptic queen
A prophesy, a perfect piece of my heart
Oh I want ya
Oh I want ya
I need you baby won’t you stay?
Oh I want ya
Oh I want ya
I need you baby won’t you stay?
Stick the knife in towards my lovable side
Claim all you need it's all the space in the world
I gave you galaxies to claim the stars for days
But all your paintings blend into fodder grey
Baby let's get together
I wanna get with you
Nobody else could matter
What else do we have to lose?
I’ll be your Magna Carta
You'll be my cryptic queen
A prophesy, a perfect piece of my heart
Like a key you came in and opened my heart
Like a key you came in and opened my, opened my heart
Oh I want ya
Oh I want ya
I need you baby won’t you stay?
Oh I want ya
Oh I want ya
I need you baby won’t you stay?
Like a key you came in and opened my heart
I need you baby won’t you stay?
Like a key you came in and opened my, opened my heart
I need you baby won’t you stay?
I don’t see the sun til 10am
It leaves at 4, never back again
I gather round, myself and I
To stare at these sturdy walls
I dug so deep, my heads a spin now
I look up at the mess I'm in
Don’t forget your reasons
Don’t forget your heart
The price is in the mending
The ending’s in the start
Everybody knows the reasons why I ran away
Everybody knows the reason why it’s all at stake
But I couldn’t find the reason why I’d bite
Why did I bite and stay in lost valley for you?
I can't feel the wind, I’m all blocked in
The leaves that fall show me autumn’s skin
My pride is gone, where do I climb?
No rope for when broken hearts fall
I dug so deep, my heads a spin now
I look up at the mess I'm in
Don’t forget your reasons
Don’t forget your heart
The price is in the mending
The ending’s in the start
Everybody knows the reasons why I ran away
Everybody knows the reason why it’s all at stake
But I couldn’t find the reason why I’d bite
Why did I bite and stay in lost valley for you?
Everybody knows the reasons why I ran away
Everybody knows the reason why it’s all at stake
But I couldn’t find the reason why I’d bite
Why did I bite and stay in lost valley for you?
Fools in love can make amends
But I can’t afford to be fooled again
I want to feel above the fear
I hope someday I’ll say
Don’t deny the love that you love
One day you will turn into dust
Pressure me to tangle our hearts
Feel like it is
Oh trepidation!
Clock strikes two across the sea
I lay in bed in misery
My heart sweats deep in agony
I need to touch your face
Don’t deny the love that we love
One day you will turn into dust
Pressure me to tangle our hearts
Feel like it is
Oh trepidation!
The space your taking
Taking up in my head
The space your taking
Taking up in my head
The space your taking
Taking up in my head
The space your taking
Taking up in my head
Don’t deny the love that you love
One day you will turn into dust
Pressure me to tangle our hearts
And feel like it is
The space your taking
Taking up in my head
The space your taking
Taking up in my head
Oh trepidation!
The space your taking
Taking up in my head
The space your taking
Taking up in my head
about
Vancouver, BC, Canada – Breathe Of My Leaves, comprised of Stephano Barberis and Jordan Gant, are releasing “Stay” (Single Mix) on February 2nd, 2024 across all streaming platforms.
“Stay” is the third official single to be lifted from the 13-track album The Radiant Believers which was released last September to critical acclaim, although eight previous singles have been released over the last year and a half. The album has become an industry-wide favourite, being listed in many Best Of lists at the end of 2023, including a few “Album Of The Year” and various “Song Of The Year” pronouncements for multiple songs.
The new single “Stay” is the ebullient album opener and its new, electrified and juiced-up Single Mix arrives on the heels of “Perfect Defeat” and the Erasure/Abba-tastic remix single “Clarke & Bell,” which had a second life after it was remixed by legendary Europop remixer Matt Pop. Included on the single is a brand new vibe-y electro-bop B-side called “Lost Valley,” and the “Trepidation!” (Novlik Remix). Novlik is a South Asian superstar psy-trance DJ who is flown around India to set fire to dancefloors and events (some with over 100,000 attendees) with his psy-trance thunder. Novlik’s lastest Spotify Unwrapped reveals 4.5 million streams and 1.5 million followers; no slouch!
“Stay” began as an uplifting spiritual instrumental by Stephano before turning into the relationship clarion call when Jordan put his impassioned voice and lyrics onto it. “I just wanted the hymnal song to be uplifting but I never expected it to be so ‘big’ when it was just an instrumental. It was the ideal song to open the album as it starts off quiet before exploding into an emotional hurricane,” says Stephano. (Initially, “Clarke & Bell” was supposed to open the album; hence the long riser intro).
The song has been infused and fortified with even more immediate energy and urgency, elevating it with an even bigger sound. Stephano adds, “It feels like the song is so large that it drains the electricity in the studio now when I play it! You can feel the synths and energy coursing through it, and it really underlines the melodies. It almost sounds… sinister and cinematic. I don’t know why but in my head, this feels like a James Bond theme if Depeche Mode were to make it.”
Asked about the song, Jordan lets his thought flow: “A song with a lyric depicting an ever burning love for another, only to clearly see that it is a give-give relationship with no take. Giving them galaxies, allowing yourself to turn the other cheek (or stick the knife in towards my lovable side) giving them all the space and gifts in the world.”
Gant continues, “The pre chorus cries out the defeated line almost all of us have said in a troubled relationship…..just stay. I need you, just stay. Without you I would be even more lost and confused than I already am.”
Jordan delves deeper into “Stay,” the final song completed for The Radiant Believers album; “The lyric to the song’s bridge is the initial forceful rush of love you feel upon meeting someone you want to be close to. Like a key you came in and opened my heart. It is not meant to mean anything more than a deep sensed feeling towards another. Opening my heart may not be the best thing, or the healthiest thing, but I can’t decipher that in the moment. A key was used, you instantly want to shower them with gifts and praise - while seeing and ignoring that they are stabbing you and not appreciating you through the process.”
As mentioned earlier, the album and its singles have gone on to be listed in many Album Of The Year and Best Of lists from industry and fans alike on multiple occasions by such industry entities as Jimm Kjelgaard’s The Sol of Synth-Pop, John Orie’s Synthpoplover, Big Satsuma Radio’s DJ Matt Williams, Kurt Sinclair-Hall, Bridget Kyle Gray, SynthPop America’s Matthew Lee, Synthtopia’s John Tupper, Coolmowee, Radio Nachtflug, Edición Limitada, Suzanne Letting at Spectrum On Air, and Bazz's Energy Express, to name a few. Various singles were listed as Song Of The Year or close to it, including “Trepidation!”, “Perfect Defeat,” “Clarke & Bell,” “Supernova Heart” and “All The Memories Made.”
“Stay” (Single Mix) follows up the successful singles, “Clarke & Bell” (Matt Pop Mixes), “Perfect Defeat,” “Clarke & Bell,” ”All The Memories Made,” “Us,” “Avalon,” “Sweet Music Man,” “Supernova Heart” and “Trepidation!” (which quickly became the most successful single the band have ever released). All of the singles became runaway hits on electronic and pop radio stations across North America, Europe/UK, Australia and the Middle East. As a foreshadow to 2023’s incredibly successful year, all three singles from 2022 were listed in many “Best Of 2022” lists, with “Sweet Music Man” being honoured with Best Song Of 2022 by synth-pop juggernaut Jimm Kjelgaard’s The Sol Of Synthpop weekly radio show, amongst being listed as the top song of the year by other DJ’s as well as industry titan Kurt Sinclair-Hall of Big Satsuma Radio.
