Breathe Of My Leaves release single “Perfect Defeat” on October 20th, 2023 from The Radiant Believers album // The Radiant Believers album was released September 1st, 2023

Vancouver, BC, Canada – Breathe Of My Leaves, comprised of Stephano Barberis and Jordan Gant, have released “Perfect Defeat” on October 20th, 2023 across all streaming platforms.

“Perfect Defeat” is the second official single to be lifted from the new 13-track album The Radiant Believers, although seven pervious singles have been released over the last year and a half.

The song is a darkly euphoric, retro-futuristic wall of emotional sonic energy about vocalist Jordan Gant’s feelings of inadequacy about his voice. Jordan explains, “It’s a song that I sing about hating my harmonies. Always thinking that my talent somedays is just to layer things to death and make them sound epic to distract from an unsatisfying melody. It is just an insecurity song basically.” Metaphorically, the song sounds like he’s singing about a relationship partner, but it’s the typical imposter syndrome most artists suffer from. Introspection at an artistically electrified level, indeed.

Stephano Barberis describes the song as a heavy juggernaut of a dance track that’s relentless, with a galloping Blade Runner vibe. “I wanted the song to just be big and frantic then to end rather suddenly. It’s dark yet it’s oddly, unnervingly, uplifting. It may be the darkest song on the album, but I’m hoping that the energy of it lifts the listener up as though they’ve been through a massive night-time storm but survived.”

All the singles have included new bonus tracks (B-sides) unavailable elsewhere, but this single will be in the form of an EP of remixes of the track. A veritable pantheon of super-talented artists who are putting their spin on the anthemic track about self-doubt are BlakLight (smooth darkwave), Shelter Weareshelter (euphoric trance), Train To Spain (Scandinavian synth-pop), Rezfilter Jason Subtractive (insane analogue wizardry) and Darren James (club-land tech house).

“Perfect Defeat” follows up the successful singles “Clarke & Bell,” ”All The Memories Made,” “Us,” “Avalon,” “Sweet Music Man,” “Supernova Heart” and the most recent single “Trepidation!” (which quickly became the most successful single the band have ever released). All of the singles became runaway hits on electronic and pop radio stations across North America, Europe/UK, Australia and the Middle East. All three singles last year were listed in many “Best Of 2022” lists, with “Sweet Music Man” being honoured with Best Song Of 2022 by synth-pop juggernaut Jimm Kjelgaard’s The Sol of Synth-Pop weekly radio show, amongst being listed as the top song of the year by other DJ’s as well as industry titan Kurt Sinclair-Hall of Big Satsuma Radio.
